Prevention Is The Kindest Way!

Kotor Kitties helps homeless cats in Montenegro live healthier lives and reduces the stray population through a high-volume spay-neuter program.

Kotor Kitties is a partnership of voluntary charities committed to reducing the suffering of stray animals in Montenegro.

Prevention of uncontrolled reproduction is the most humane way to manage the cat population.

City cats, Stray cats, Strays and Wanderers...

The natural charm and grace of these animals fascinate people all over the world! But when the population grows beyond what the community can properly care for, fascination gives way to misery.

It’s terrible to see exposed ribs, swollen bellies and dull coats due to malnutrition. It’s not that good-natured locals and tourists don’t go out of their way to feed them – there are simply too many city cats (and dogs!) in Montenegro to take care of. Litter after litter of beautiful kittens getting sick and dying from the virus – all of which could have been avoided if there weren’t so many of them! Kittens and cats who survive the disease may lose an eye or become completely blind.

Kotor Kitties helps Kotor and other communities throughout Montenegro to humanely reduce the overpopulation of urban cats through spaying and neutering.

We are proud to be the first continuous sterilization project and the first Trap-Neuter-Return project in Montenegro!

Montenegro

Montenegro is a small Balkan country that was part of the former Yugoslavia. Sharing the Dalmatian coast with Croatia, it is located on the Adriatic Sea opposite southern Italy. Tourists flock to

Montenegro to enjoy the stunning beauty of the coast and mountains, friendly people and delicious food. And at the same time, they see a massive and tragic overpopulation of “urban animals” – unwanted cats and dogs.

Kotor Kitties combines the care of tourists, the skill of local veterinarians and the compassion of local residents to provide a humane solution for urban animals through the implementation of Montenegro’s first high-quality large-scale sterilization program. Our program also includes the first Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) project for cats in Montenegro.

A targeted and sustained spay-neuter program is the most effective way to address cat and dog populations that exceed the capacity of the local community to properly care for them. This not only helps reduce the overall population of animals, but prevents the health problems caused by overbreeding and the hormone-related behavioral problems associated with unsterilized animals.

A targeted and ongoing spay and neuter program is the most effective way to reduce cat and dog populations that are outgrowing the community's ability to properly care for them.

This not only helps reduce the overall population of these animals, but also prevents health problems associated with overbreeding, as well as hormonal behavioral problems in unsterilized animals.
