Kotor Kitties is a spay-neuter program for the cats of Montenegro.
Yet it does so much more than that.
Kotor Kitties brings Montenegro a message of humane population control of unwanted animals. It is a message of cultural change—cultural revolution— for the people and animals of Montenegro.
In recent months a spate of dog poisonings around Podgorica, Montenegro’s capital city, has angered and alarmed pet owners, animal activists, and others throughout the city. The municipal government was concerned as well, and finally agreed to try a CNVR program for the street dogs.
Today our partner vet clinic, RoyalVet, discovered that their colony of cats were poisoned. One they managed to save, one died an agonizing death, and 4 others disappeared, most likely to die. The tragedy of losing these healthy, beautiful, sterilized animals is almost overwhelming…
But cultural change is slow. It doesn’t progress in a straight line. But it is coming. More and more people are coming to understand that the population of unwanted animals can not only be controlled, but gradually decreased. By spaying, neutering, TNR, and CNVR, more and more people come to understand that prevention is the kindest way ~ not only for the animals, but for the souls of the Montenegrin people.
