How You Can Help

Outside Montenegro

Even if you don’t live in Montenegro,
there are still things you can do to help!

Are you traveling to Montenegro soon?

Some items just aren’t available, or affordable, in Montenegro!

Perhaps you can find room in your suitcase for a fleece blanket or yardage. These are really useful for our hospitalized cats – they’re soft, absorbent and easily washable. We can also use sheets and beach towels, to fully cover traps!

Other small items include Mini “Miracle Nipples” and small pet-sized bottles for orphaned kittens, plus good-quality kitten formula, which is in short supply in Montenegro.

If you have a little more space in your luggage….

we can also use humane kitten traps.  They’re approximately 24 x 8 x 9 inches, 4.5 pounds, and could be packed full of socks and such for travel within a suitcase.

Of course, in Montenegro there is a great need for modern drugs for the treatment of animals. If you have an opportunity to bring along a couple packs of veterinary drugs that can fit in your suitcase and hand them over to our veterinarians, that would be great. Anything legal is fine by us. Even brand name products like flea and tick drops or ear mite treatment can be very expensive and hard to come by. Just keep in mind that some medications require a low temperature, and you will need a special ice pack.

Fundraising

It is a fact of life that Kotor Kitties will always need money to operate. Vet fees are our main expense, even though our vets provide us with a good discount.

Can you raise money for Kotor Kitties? Anything legal is fine by us – we would be very grateful.

Remember that we are registered as a 501 © 3 in the US and registered with the Charities Commission in the UK.

Social Media

Sharing the Kotor Kitties social media pages and posts is a great way to help us raise awareness and funds!

Our website can also be shared – it holds great information for anyone looking to travel to or live in Montenegro. It would be helpful if you could highlight it in your travel blog, or send a link to friends and family planning to visit Montenegro.

Writing Letters

Could you write a letter to your country’s ambassador in Montenegro to highlight your concerns with the abandoned animals in Montenegro? We have letter templates here, but your own words are also very powerful.

If you have visited Montenegro, it is very helpful for you to contact the Tourism Ministry with your observations and concerns about the animals. Let them know you want to see humane solutions, because it is not unusual for an area to be “cleaned up” before tourist season by poisoning the dogs and cats.

It can also be very effective to write to your hotel management, Airbnb host, etc. to let them know how much you appreciated their care (i.e., fresh food and water, small shelters, etc.) for the community animals … or how disappointed you were by the lack of concern.

Consumers and, of course, tourists can have a powerful voice on behalf of the animals!
